WHAT IS AN AIR FRYER DOUBLE CHEESEBURGER?

An air fryer double cheeseburger is a delicious, juicy cheeseburger that has been cooked in one of the “hottest” kitchen gadgets in the last century; the air fryer.

This double cheeseburger has tons of flavor and is super juicy, unlike a lot of burgers cooked in a skillet or on a grill.

KETO AIR FRYER DOUBLE CHEESEBURGER INGREDIENTS

To make this extra juicy and ultra delicious keto air fryer double cheeseburger, you’ll need to grab the following ingredients.

  • 1/2 lb ground beef (or two pre-made beef patties)
  • 2 slices cheese of choice
  • 1 pinch pink Himalayan salt
  • 1 pinch fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch onion powder

After you have these together, grab your air fryer and get ready to make magic happen!

HOW TO MAKE AN AIR FRYER DOUBLE CHEESEBURGER

  1. Form two 1/4 pound hamburger patties (if not using pre-made ones)
  2. Lightly salt, pepper, and onion powder the hamburger patties
  3. Place into your air fryer and set to 370°F for 12 minutes
  4. At the 6 minute mark, flip the hamburgers
  5. When the air fryer finishes, place the cheese onto the hamburger patties and shut the drawer for one minute
  6. Remove the patties, stack, and devour!

WHAT KIND OF GROUND BEEF SHOULD I USE?

Ideally, for a keto diet, you want to aim for using higher-fat meats. Generally, a 70/30 ground beef would be the best for a recipe such as this.

However, since fatty meats and an air fryer don’t always play well together (this is discussed towards the end of this post) it is better to use slightly more lean ground beef.

Having said this, 80/20 will work just as well as 70/30 and won’t splatter as much onto the air fryer heating element.

SO I CAN’T USE 70/30 GROUND BEEF?

Well, yes, you sure can. I was simply conveying that 80/20 will splatter less inside the cooking space and cause less of a smoke factor.

Again, this is discussed in more detail below.

WHAT IS AN AIR FRYER EXACTLY?

By definition, an air fryer is a kitchen appliance that cooks food using the idea of convection cooking.

In case you don’t know, convection is where a fan circulates air around the food at a high speed to cook the food. Before air fryers, convection ovens were found in commercial kitchens, and more recently, in residential homes.

Air fryers have become increasingly popular over the past several years and have made their way into millions of homes.

Their precise temperature control and “crispy” cooking preset have made them extremely popular.

They are most commonly used to cook fries and breaded foods. However, their use easily extends to all kinds of other foods such as cakes, meats, and even eggs.

WHY USE AN AIR FRYER?

If you’ve never used an air fryer before, you might be asking yourself “why should I use one?” There are several reasons to use an air fryer instead of a grill, skillet, griddle, or another cooking utensil. Let’s take a look…

SPEED AND CONVENIENCE

Due to the way they are made, air fryers make the cooking of many foods incredibly fast, easy, and convenient.

Thanks to their design of circulating hot air around the food, they heat evenly and more efficiently than if the food were simply laying on a hot surface cooking.

The heating element in the fryers heats very quickly and you’ll find the air temperature will meet the setting in no time. Even in comparison to electric stoves, the air fryer will heat much faster.

Faster heat means quicker eat! It’s a win, win!

REMOVES EXCESS FAT WITHOUT DRYING

While true, eating keto is based around the consumption of plenty of fat, there can definitely be too much fat in something.

How many times have you ever had a bowl of chili or other food that is just swimming in fat? We’ve all (unfortunately) had too many.

These cheeseburgers, for instance, will produce a fair amount of fat rendered into the bottom of the air fryer basket after cooking. Normally, in a skillet or on a grill, fat loss equals dry meat.

However, these keto air fryer double cheeseburgers will still be juicy, have plenty of fat, and be unbelievably flavorful.

In this case, we are exchanging fat loss for fat loss, right?

CAN I USE FROZEN BEEF PATTIES?

Sure you can. Depending on how “clean” you are trying to eat, however, make sure you take a hard look at the ingredients on frozen beef patties.

Not all pre-made beef patties are made the same. Some will be simply beef (as they should be) and others will have extra added ingredients and fillers.

Be cautious of any patties that aren’t 100% beef and contain anything except salt. Some might even hide ingredients in a label of “other spices.”

There’s nothing wrong with pre-made, frozen patties, but just be sure to do your homework before buying a box.

CAN I SEASON MY CHEESEBURGER?

Of course, you can. In fact, the recipe itself already calls for salt, pepper, and onion powder, our three favorites.

However, you can easily add any number of other spices to make this recipe your very own.

Here are a few ideas for some seasonings you might add to this delicious keto air fryer double cheeseburger:

  • Garlic; minced or powdered
  • Paprika; smoked or regular (we vote for smoked!)
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Crushed red pepper
  • Ground jalapeno (for a nice kick)

WHAT SIDES GO WELL WITH THIS CHEESEBURGER?

There are plenty of great sides that pair well with this to make an absolutely delicious meal.

Here are a few we love:

ARE THERE ANY GOOD DIPPING SAUCES FOR THIS CHEESEBURGER?

Of course, there are! You can easily dip it in some no sugar added ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise.

Two of our favorites are our Keto Dipping Sauce and Keto Chipotle Sauce.

They are both creamy, tangy, and ultimately delicious with a double cheeseburger!

The chipotle sauce adds a nice smoky kick!

BE CAREFUL WITH HIGHLY PROCESSED CHEESE…

When choosing a cheese to go with this air fryer double cheeseburger, be cautious of the highly processed cheeses that can be readily found in your grocery store.

WHAT IS HIGHLY PROCESSED CHEESE?

Highly processed cheeses are those that are manufactured to have a long shelf life and look like real cheese. Two of the most popular versions are American Singles and (although not sliced) Velveeta.

These processed cheeses are actually considered “food products” made from cheese. They also contain emulsifiers, saturated vegetable oils, extra salt, food colorings, whey or sugar.

As a result, many flavors, colors, and textures of processed cheese exist.

WHY SHOULD I AVOID IT?

The better question here is why should you eat it? It’s not real and it has no real nutritional value.

Missing out on all of the added ingredients definitely won’t hurt. And, regardless, you’ll be leaving behind plenty of useless added sugars in each slice.

WHAT CHEESE SHOULD I USE INSTEAD?

Instead of processed cheese, opt for real cheese. You can get it pre-sliced or in blocks and slice it yourself.

Most grocery stores now have artisan cheese sections as well that have all kinds of different, exotic, and tasty cheeses in them.

Your keto air fryer double cheeseburger begs you for a delicious (and real) cheese that is full of flavor and fats.

Want something that will really light up your taste buds? Give a couple of slices of smoked gouda a try. It’s amazing!

IS MORE EXPENSIVE CHEESE WORTH IT?

Well, that answer is totally up to you. The bad news, at least in our experience, is that it’s a trial and error operation to find the “expensive” cheeses you like.

The result, however, of finding a delicious cheese you love, is a strengthened flavor palette of your cooking.

When you find a cheese you love, even though it might be more expensive than the mass-produced store-bought variety, you will want to use it all the time.

The other good news about these cheeses is that they are (generally) free of any extra ingredients or additives. They also are “real” cheeses that have a good amount of fat to very low carbohydrate content.

REAL (NOT PROCESSED) CHEESE IDEAS FOR YOUR CHEESEBURGER

Having said that, using a delicious artisan cheese for this keto air fryer double cheeseburger is a wonderful idea.

If you are interested in exploring the world of adding these delicious cheeses to your cheeseburger, here are some delicious (though maybe unorthodox) ideas for you.

  • Feta cheese
  • Gouda
  • Smoked gouda
  • Fresh mozzarella
  • Parmesan (trust us on this one; a drier cheese, for sure, but also delicious!)
  • Muenster

CAN I ADD BACON TO THIS?

Yes, of course! I think the better question here is, why wouldn’t you add bacon to this?!

The great part about this is, you can cook bacon in the air fryer too! Just be careful about how much fat builds up in the basket.

Since you’re cooking meat in your air fryer, be sure to take a moment to read our word of caution below.

HOW ABOUT ADDING AN EGG…

Of course! A delicious addition! Sunnyside up is a favorite of ours. Just keep in mind, more additions equal more calories and other nutritional content.

If you are keeping track of calories, you might want to amend the amount of ground beef or cheese you use, if you also add an egg.

WHAT ABOUT ADDING EXTRA CHEESE?

Add all the extra cheese you want! Add multiple kinds of cheese! Stack cheese an inch high!

Adding extra cheese is easy and simple. Make this keto air fryer double cheeseburger your new favorite by using whatever your favorite cheeses are.

Just keep in mind, the more cheese you add, the more calories and (potentially) carbs you are adding as well. Make sure to keep track of this as you cheese it up!

AIR FRYER + MEAT WORD OF CAUTION

Since you are cooking meat in your air fryer, we’d like to offer a word of caution…

We have found that anytime cook meats in our air fryer, the fryer will begin to emit a fair amount of smoke from the rear ventilation. I think the cause is fat popping from the meat and hitting the heating element above.

Very fatty ground beef (such as 70/30) and bacon will be the two worst culprits.

While this is not a huge deal, how fatty your meat is will determine how much smoke your air fryer may emit. And trust us, after a while, the smoke can really begin to fog up a room.

Ventilation nearby is a must!

To be clear, it’s not a hazard by any means, but the amount of smoke sometimes emitted can be alarming at first. Just be prepared and understand that an open window in your kitchen might in fact be your best friend when cooking meat in an air fryer.
