A properly marinated steak is the perfect way to kick off the weekend, holiday, or really, any time of the year! This keto steak marinade recipe is easy, quick, and gives any cut of a meat a delicious flavor!
WHAT CUT OF STEAK IS THIS MARINADE BEST FOR?
Really, this marinade is delicious for all cuts of steak. We like to use it on our beef that we buy from a local farmer each year, but any cut of store-bought beef would work just as well, too.
As a side note, if you have never tried buying beef in bulk from a local farmer, we highly suggest it! We began doing this a few years ago and the quality of the meat is far beyond anything you will get at a store. And, you’re supporting your local farmers and families when doing so.
You can use various searches to find local beef farmers, but here’s one to get you started.
KETO STEAK MARINADE INGREDIENTS
Before you set out to make this keto marinade recipe, make sure you have the following ingredients on hand first.
- 1/2 cup avocado oil
- 1/2 cup coconut aminos
- 1 tbsp fresh squeezed lemon juice
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- fresh ground black pepper, to taste
- pinch kosher salt, only if desired
After you have all of this, you’re set and ready to go!
HOW TO MAKE STEAK MARINADE
- In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients
- Use a whisk or fork to mix ingredients well
- Pour over a steak in another container
- Marinate for any where from 30 minutes to 8 hours, turning steak consistently during the marination process
- Place steak on the grill and enjoy!
WHAT ARE LIQUID AMINOS?
Liquid aminos are liquid seasonings that look and taste similar to soy sauce.
They can be made by fermenting coconut sap with salt and water or treating soybeans with an acidic solution to break them down into free amino acids.
They add a savory, salty flavor to meals and are naturally vegan and gluten-free. This flavor, just like soy sauce, oyster sauce, and fish sauce, now has it’s own word for the taste it gives food. That word is “umami.”
HOW LONG SHOULD STEAKS MARINATE?
It is best to let steaks marinate for at least a few hours, but not longer than 8 hours or so (at least in our opinion). The thicker the steak, the longer it should marinate.
If you marinate a steak for too long, it can change the texture, be too salty, or be too strong with its flavor.
OTHER STEAK MARINADE ADDITIONS
Even though this steak marinade is super simple, there are other additions you might want to make to it that can make it even more delicious! Here are a few ideas for you.
- Red pepper flakes
- Chopped jalapeno
- Chopped onion
- Lemon juice
- Cilantro (fresh or dried)
- Dried rosemary
- Chipotle peppers
If you have other ideas to add to the marinade, please
CAN I REUSE THIS STEAK MARINADE?
No, after you place a pice of raw meat into the marinade, it can’t be reused.
You can easily use the marinade to baste your steak as you are grilling it to use it up. Otherwise, you’ll want to discard it after marinading your meat.
