Vanilla ice cream is possibly the simplest and most popular ice cream flavor there is. In fact, it might even be your go-to flavor. If it is, you’re definitely not alone.
The origination of ice cream took place in Asia around the 14th-century. A mixture of salt and ice was used to cool the ingredients into an icy, creamy substance. Different flavors emerged as the concept of ice cream began to spread around the world.
But why is vanilla such an addicting flavor? My personal thought is because it is simple, yet tasty. It allows a different flavor than chocolate but is equally as simple and addictive. There are even different varieties of the flavor, such as French vanilla.
In fact, vanilla is so popular that it’s even used as a base ingredient in many flavored recipes including pumpkin, chocolate, and others. The world might be better with chocolate as a base ingredient, but that might get a little weird eventually. Don’t you think?
So what makes keto vanilla ice cream so easy to make? Well, the number of ingredients is minimal and the only ingredient needed (that’s not part of the ice cream base) is vanilla. Cream, sweetener, egg yolk, and vanilla. How much easier can it get?
As a side note for all our keto ice cream recipes. If you are worried about the use of egg yolks, make sure to use pasteurized eggs. Myself, along with many others, have been using raw eggs in cooking for years without issue. If you’re using eggs from home or fresh bought, then the story changes. You can easily leave it out in that case.
