WHAT ARE FAT BOMBS?

Fat bombs are one of the most ketogenic foods you’ll ever find. In short, they are foods that aid in fat consumption during the day for those on the ketogenic lifestyle.

Fat bombs can be used in many different ways – like snacks, meal replacements, or as a side dish.

They are high in fat, with a small number of carbohydrates and protein.

As a general rule, they are also very easy to make and contain only a few ingredients.

WHY SHOULD I INCORPORATE FAT BOMBS INTO MY DIET?

The easiest way to answer this is to ask you a few questions of our own…

  1. Do you need ways to find extra fat in your daily diet?
  2. Do you find it hard to meet your unique daily fat intake needs?
  3. Do you like sweet, rich, and easy snacks/desserts?
  4. Do you want to have high-fat, low-sugar treats on hand at all times?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you should absolutely look into incorporating fat bombs into your diet!

If nothing else, fat bombs are the easiest way to add plenty of fats into your diet each day!

IS EATING FAT BOMBS WHILE INTERMITTENT FASTING OK?

Before we continue, it is very important to understand that the answer to this topic lies mainly in opinion. Everyone you ask about this will likely have a different answer, based on opinions and reasoning.

Having said that, we will offer our opinion on the subject. Please keep in mind, it is just that; an opinion.

THE DEFINITION OF INTERMITTENT FASTING

To “set the scene,” let’s first clear up the definition of intermittent fasting.

Intermittent fasting is simply the process of fasting (not eating for extended periods of time) once a day or every so many days.

The only thing allowed during the fasting timeframe is caloric-neutral liquids such as water and black coffee.

This allows your body to use its own fat stores for energy since no other form of nutrition is being ingested.

Some people do what is often nicknamed 8:16 fasting. This is where you allow yourself to eat regular meals only in an 8-hour window while fasting the other 16 hours of the day.

BACK TO THE QUESTION…

Since fasting is not consuming nutrition for a period of time, it would be easy to assume nothing with calories is allowed.

However, as you know, the ketogenic diet relies on ingesting and burning fat for energy.

Therefore, we believe having small amounts (300 calories or less) of extremely high-fat foods (cough, cough… fat bombs?!) is acceptable while fasting.

Our theory (this is shared by others; we aren’t alone) behind this is that since you are training your body to use and burn fat as its main energy source, ingesting fats, though not a high-calorie amount, is helping aid your body in making this fat transition.

The note of caution, of course, would be to be extremely vigilant when it comes to the number of calories you’re taking in during a fast.

If your caloric intake is too high, your body will assume you are eating normally and won’t really fast properly (use your fat stores for energy).

This is especially important if you decide to fast often (think the 8:16 fasting method here). You’d certainly not want to fast on a regular schedule and sabotage yourself along the way!

  • Hand Mixer – We’ve said it before, but it’s always worth a repeat. A good hand mixer can truly change your life in the kitchen. Whisks and elbow grease is great, but a hand mixer can make short work of just about any mixing task. If you don’t have one as part of your kitchen utensils, there’s no time like now to fix that!

The general consensus is that anything over 50 calories breaks a fast. (Which is basically a dollop of cream in your coffee) So you should not eat this during fasting hours. But of course during your eating window they are great for keto plans.
