WHAT IS A GIMLET?

A gimlet is an alcoholic beverage typically made of two parts gin and one part lime juice. In fact, a description from a 1953 novel described a gimlet as “half gin and half lime juice and nothing else.”

The origins of the name are unknown.

This keto-friendly gimlet stays true to its original form by incorporating only lime juice and gin. To give the drink a sweet taste, should you choose, you can also add a drop or two of a keto-approved liquid sweetener.

CHOOSING GOOD GIN

Believe it or not, regardless of how well you mix your drink, a delicious product relies on a delicious gin.

GIN SELECTION TIPS

Price doesn’t equate to quality. While this can be said of other liquors, it doesn’t necessarily hold true with gin. Make sure you like what you are using instead of always opting for the most expensive bottle.

Luxury usually isn’t labeled. Our absolute favorite gin is Uncle Val’s Botanicals. It is absolutely delicious with a wonderful blend of botanical flavors.

In no way would you know Uncle Val’s is luxury taste without having had it. Therefore, keep in mind some of the best gins will be sitting with some of the worst…

Reading the label won’t really help you. Unlike other liquors that may disclose age, distillation method, and other info on the label to help you, gins generally give no info. Therefore, reading the label won’t help you much.

KNOW WHAT TYPE OF GIN YOU’D LIKE TO USE

Hopefully, you know what kind of gin you like to use best. There are various types of gin to be found, so knowing a little about each can help you make the best decisions, especially if you’re not sure what kind you prefer.

London Dry Gin – this variety of gin is the most popular. It is blended with botanicals (flavors obtained from plants) for that delicious gin flavor you’re used to.

New/International Style Gin – these gins are generally referred to as craft gins which use the same distillation process as traditional gins, but use other flavors with or without botanicals.

Thanks to the use of additional flavors, these gins offer flavor unexpected (in a good way) taste profiles many love.

Old Tom Gin – these gins have been sweetened with sugar or flower water. While these types of gins used to be more popular, they aren’t anymore. More than likely, you won’t run into this type often.

Genever Gin – this is the original gin. These gins tend to be sweet and rich, with a lighter, dry taste.
